“After losing my brother to colon cancer when he was only 27 years old, I realized that I wanted to support cancer awareness, but it always felt too impersonal. Through Hearts for San Diego, I'm able to help create awareness while connecting people to many local causes in easy, fun ways. I’m so grateful to be able to give back to San Diego through the wide variety of causes that we support."
A native of Southern California, Sandy first fell in love with nonprofits when she was a teenager. Inspired at Lake Cachuma Circle V Summer Camp, led by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Council of Los Angeles, she quickly developed a deep passion for charitable work that continues to this day.
Sandy uses her 30+ years of experience from the corporate world to help companies and nonprofits reach their organizational and business goals. Sandy loves working with smart, positive, fun people that want to keep San Diego an amazing place to live for all of us.
Since starting his career as a Chef 30 years ago, Syd Marshal has used his talents and connections in the food industry as a tool to benefit local charities and fundraising events. In 2008, Syd moved to San Diego and got involved with several Chef-driven benefits and charitable events (including Collaboration Kitchen, Baja Coastal Preservation, Rock the Cure) as a way to give back to the community. He met Hearts for San Diego Founder, Karen Moy, as she was forming the nonprofit and has volunteered his time and services ever since.
"As a 'Founding Volunteer', I'm honored to serve on the Board of Directors and help further Hearts for San Diego’s commitment to the community. They say ‘Charity starts at home’, and I am looking forward to making this community my Home.”
